MESSAGE OF THE PRESIDENT

These challenges put the Foundation’s thrust and values to
the test. The pandemic compelled us to quickly re-examine
our why’s, re-think our how’s, and focus on what really
matters — to empower Filipino individuals and reach out to
communities in need.

These inspired us to work on 3 C’s for the year 2020:

Center on Communities: We cautiously streamlined our projects based on the urgency and need of our focused communities.
Capitalize on Collaborations: To maximize and extend our impact, we tapped on available resources and network for new projects and collaborations.
Communicate Better: We improved our communications even with the challenges brought by the lockdown. We asked around, did quick scan survey among our adopted communities to tailor fit projects and offerings, and made our presence felt in various forms (either during onground activation or in digital platforms). We also got creative in our communication channels, and we humanized how we delivered our message.

In a time when the nation is in great need, our presence must be strongly felt. And as we provided relief and comfort through our actions, we stay true to the mission that our namesake has wished for in this country.

#TogetherWeHeal The campaign for COVID-19 relief efforts was launched. #TWH is a donation drive to help indigent Filipino families in Metro Manila with difficult access to basic food needs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It supports the efforts of the local government units in the Metro. This is in partnership with Araneta City, TicketNet, and Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc.

April 14

#TWH Roxas City JAAF supported Roxas City LGU and the Gerry Roxas Foundation in responding to the needs of the local community during this COVID-19 pandemic. To give support to overwhelmed front liners, the GRF Convention Center provided daily meals to nearly 300 personnel of the City Command Center, the City Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) task force, the security task force stationed at the eight borders of the City, health workers of the Provincial Health Office and volunteer sewers of PPEs of Capiz State University. The GRF Convention Center also opened its dormitory and provided free meals and amenities for the quarantined 24 nurses and health workers of the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital who were exposed to persons under investigation or PUIs or patients with positive Covid-19. To increase morale and appreciate the 114 front liners of Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital, Ganda Kits (Vanity Kits) were gifted to them along with some Easter goodies.

#TWH in Christ the King Parish in Greenmeadows, Quezon City Christ the King (CTK) Parish has been extending help to poor communities in the Cubao Diocese and medical frontliners in hospitals as part of its OPLAN COVID, an ongoing outreach to respond to those most affected by the pandemic. Among those that are supporting this effort is J. Amado Araneta Foundation and other generous benefactors from parish organizations and other entities.

#TWH in St. Martin de Porres 120 families from St. Martin de Porres of Quezon City received our #TogetherWeHeal family food packs last week.

May 20

WOW-N-WASH in Roxas City JAAF supported the GRF - Visayas’ continued program on the War on Worms, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WOW-N-WASH) in Roxas City. This is also a part of the City-wide Nutritional Feeding Program. Malnourished children in 2 coastal barangays benefited from the Project on its first tranche. They receive 5 food packs a week containing powdered milk, eggs, and malunggay bread, with anti-bacterial soap. WOW-N-WASH was initiated in Roxas City by Mar Roxas, Honorary Chairman of GRF.

JAAF Donates RT-PCR Test Kits to QC JAAF’s Executive Director Diane Romero led the turnover today of COVID-19 RT-PCR test kits to the Quezon City Government. These test kits will supplement the government’s initiative on the mitigation and containment of the Pandemic. Together in the photo are Dr. Mary Rochelle Paulino of QC Health Department and Maricar Ocampo RN of The Manila HealthTek Inc.

#ResilientPinoy If there is one realization in the times of COVID-19 Pandemic, it is the fact the struggle is real. This holds true for businesses. There are those in the micro, small, and medium scale industries who are not as well-equipped as those who are in the large scale. There were those who hit the bottom and quit, those who found new opportunities, and those who are resilient enough and bounced back. #ResilientPinoy was their story. It features resilient Pinoy entrepreneurs’ inspiring tales to stay relevant, be tough, and went on with business at this time of the new normal.

#TWH in Malabon City Seventy-three nutritionally-at-risk pregnant women and indigent families of Malabon City were the recipients of the last batch of relief goods for #TogetherWeHeal. The relief distribution was done through the Office of Malabon City Councilor Enzo Oreta.

September 29

Bayang Hinabi JAAF supported a livelihood training project for Quezon City women entrepreneurs. Bayang Hinabi is a capacity-building training for the women in Barangay Greater Lagro and Barangay Sto. Cristo. Loline Estipona, in her 70’s, from Brgy. Greater Lagro was an Eco Aide (street sweeper) before the Pandemic. She volunteered to be part of the Bayang Hinabi Project and learn to be a sewer for a living. Ten (10) women who were selected are given free training sessions on making PPEs (personal protective equipment), an in- demand but very delicate commodity at the moment due to the pandemic. Once completed, these PPEs were donated to the public hospitals in Quezon City. JAAF provided the micro-grant to support this Project. Together with its partners, SPARK Philippines, DTI Philippines, and the Quezon City Government, this project aims to provide economic opportunities for local women amidst the pandemic and the country’s economic recession and assist the local health sector through community participation.

Christmas Cheers for Frontliners The Araneta Group, through JAAF, helped spread Christmas Cheers to medical front liners at the Barangay Health Centers in Quezon City. Merienda bundles were sent to the Health Centers in District III of Quezon City to express their gratitude for their untiring service. The surprise was very much welcome, with the health workers enjoyed their pizza treat. Last December 25, surprise lunch bundles were sent to the medical teams of select public hospitals. The Emergency Rooms/COVID-19 Centers of Lung Center of the Philippines, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, Philippine Heart Center, Quezon City General Hospital, and National Children’s Hospital received lunch treats on Christmas Day. Through this gesture, the Araneta Group intended to make Christmas Day like it should be – a reason to celebrate.

COVID-19 Test Kits Pledge to QC J. Amado Araneta Foundation and Araneta City pledged to donate local COVID-19 test kits to the Quezon City government. Mr. Antonio T. Mardo, ACI Senior Vice President, relayed the pledge to Mayor Joy Belmonte last March 10, 2020 to assist the local government in the immediate mitigation and containment of the disease. Through its initiative, JAAF fosters a spirit of cooperation from the private sector in supporting the government.

#TWH Food Aid for Brgy. Socorro, QC Araneta City provides support to the COVID-19 relief operations of its immediate community, Barangay Socorro in Quezon City, by donating additional food aid for indigent families. Done through JAAF, some 3,000 packs of food donations were turned over to the barangay officials, led by Brgy. Captain Dr. Ted Santos. As of 20 April, beneficiaries of the food packs included the Barangay’s Senior Citizens, families in 14th Avenue, Santolan, Main Street and Liberty Street.

April 16

#TWH in Negros Occidental The JAAF Team in Negros Occidental began its food aid roll-out for Brgy. Don Jorge L. Araneta, Ma-ao, Bago City. A total of 1,150 families were recipients of food packs distributed by Team JAAF - Negros Occidental. The beneficiaries were families inside and also those outside the Ma-ao Central, as well as farmworkers. Priority was given to no and low-income earners, single parents, senior citizens, PWDs, and traysikad drivers.

#TogetherWeHeal with Art Heals: Portrait for a Cause Gateway Gallery mounted Portrait for a Cause. Those donating Php1,040 equivalent to three (3) food packs to the Together We Heal Donation Drive from April 24 to onwards gets a portrait in digital format. Friends of Gateway Gallery, talented artist Cee Cadid, Raks Molata, Naning Molata-Gavin, Joem Chua, Ronald Lopez, Dave Temperamente, and Adrian Karl Gutierrez render portraits as a thank you for supporting our indigent neighbors in time of crisis.

#TWH in Gawad Kalinga - JIACT #TogetherWeHeal family food packs with vegetable seeds were distributed to the 160 families of Julio Iglesias - Araneta Center Gawad Kalinga Village in Tanay, Rizal.

#TWH in District VI, QC Our #TogetherWeHeal food packs were delivered to the 179 families living in the urban poor community in Bgy Tandang Sora and Kaingin Bukid in Bgy. Apolonio Samson, District 6, Quezon City. These areas are either under observation and assessment for possible lockdown or being prepared for lockdown.

July–December

#AranetaBalikPasada Through the help of RiteMed, jeepney drivers, bus drivers and commuters received ascorbic acid tablets at the Jeepney Terminal and the Araneta City Bus. #AranetaBalikPasada was launched to support bouncing back drivers who are recovering from months of being idle. Considering their overall welfare, vitamins, oral rinse, face mask, and fruit juices were distributed to them on different days. This was to ensure that they are protected from the risk of getting the COVID-19 virus. About 150 drivers, 1,000 commuters, and 650 front liners benefitted from the oral solution and face mask packages. Some 200 drivers plus 660 commuters got their share of the ascorbic acid tablets.

July 9

JAAF Supported Roxas City’s “Crops for Creatives” Roxas City’s CROPS FOR CREATIVES, was the local-farmer-driven food security outreach program intended to support artists in time of COVID-19 Crisis. Sackbags-full of products for the arts and entertainment community were distributed. It contained local produce bought from small-scale farmers. The vegetables came from Bolo Vegetable Farms, while the rice was from Gabu-an and the dried fish from Dumolog. Crops for Creatives is a concerted effort of the Roxas City Government, Ang Panublion Museum, Gerry Roxas Foundation, Hublag Foundation, with the support of JAAF.

October 21

Isopropyl Alcohol for Brgy. Socorro Health Center JAAF donated gallons of isopropyl alcohol to Barangay Socorro Health Center. The Barangay is one of those with the highest recorded cases of COVID-19 cases in District III of Quezon City. The donations was to prevent the transmission in the workplace without hindering the health services offered by the Health Center to its residents.

Education in the New Normal

With the vast education gap that occurred in the “new normal,” JAAF pursued its internal Scholarship Program for deserving children of underprivileged Araneta Group employees. The Program was even expanded by providing 4-year scholarships to top public school graduates of Quezon City and Bago City in Negros Occidental. Also, JAAF maintained its partnership with Gerry Roxas Foundation and Caritas Manila for their youth development and scholarship programs, yielding close to 200 students aided in 2020.

Gateway Gallery Reinvented

The app was developed primarily to host the
SiningSaysay Augmented Reality which provides the
user with a compact, multi-sensory experience of Philippine history from prehistory up to the
contemporary period by adding the elements of
sound, music, motion, space, and narration to a two-
dimensional image.

KulturaSerye

The Gateway Gallery responded to the Pandemic
and the quarantine restrictions with a series of
KulturaSerye webinars, which feature resource
speakers who discuss timely cultural issues facing
the country today. The events are broadcasted live
every month starting July on Gateway Gallery’s
Facebook Page. The webinars are FREE, with
Gateway Gallery providing an e-certificate for
educators’ attendance.

Learning Lab

Due to the IATF guidelines, the Gateway Gallery has
been closed since March. It was, however, given a special permit to open in November by the Quezon City government as it temporarily converted its space into a Learning Lab for those in need of a quiet, sanitized, and conducive-for-learning nook
with free internet connection.

SININGSAYA CHILDREN’S WORKBOOK

Gateway Gallery completed and launched with
Adarna House Publishing the SiningSaya Children’s
Workbook, a workbook based on the SiningSaysay
Exhibit filled with fun tasks and activities related to Philippine history and culture. It was sold at Php 200, with one book donated to a sponsored child. Sales proceeds were diverted to Operation R.E.A.C.H. in November to help Filipinos displaced by Typhoon Ulysses.

Kwentuhang Adarna Sa Gateway Gallery

JAAF diverted its Kwentuhang Adarna sa Gateway Gallery activities to a series of online reading session with Adarna House to encourage children to
read books and spend time with family.

Tanglaw Online Reading Program

It also launched Tanglaw Online Reading Program. Tanglaw means light or guide in Filipino. The program was meant to periodically provide a list of reading materials in Filipino for culture, history, and heritage appreciation.

In 2020, JAAF’s role in society has become relevant more
than ever. As the nation struggled with several calamities,
political turmoil, and a global pandemic, more Filipino
families suffered greatly due to poverty and inequality.

Program themes

Grant-Making: JAAF partners with like-minded organizations to support their programs and projects that are aligned with the Foundation’s grantmaking priorities.

Scholarships: JAAF supports deserving and underprivileged students with scholarship opportunities in the communities it serves. It currently has two scholarships programs catering to the children of Araneta Group’s employees and the top graduates of Quezon City and Bago City.

Gateway Gallery: JAAF manages and operate the Gateway Gallery, the art and history museum of Araneta City. It is devoted to the promotion of Philippine culture and the arts and aims to bring it closer to the public. It is home to SiningSaysay: Philippine History in Art, a landmark project that presents the entire history of the Philippines through 30 large history paintings. SiningSaysay is joint project of the Araneta City, University of the Philippines’ Office of the President and the UP Alumni Association.

Emergency Relief Operations: JAAF provides immediate relief to meet the basic subsistence needs of the affected communities of disasters and calamities, whether natural or man-made, belonging to the Araneta Group and its communities as part of its commitment to its communities’ welfare.

Special Projects: JAAF implements various activities on health, environment, community building and a like for its communities. It also provides volunteer opportunities for Araneta employees to participate in its community outreach activities.

Legacy Projects: JAAF endeavors on special interest projects that celebrate the vision and legacy of J. Amado Araneta such as the publication of the Araneta Center Coffee Table Book.

JAAF started as a grant-making organization with Don Amado’s children (Jorge, Judy, and Maria) continuing his philanthropic legacy by
extending assistance to disadvantaged groups and individuals. It has become a grant–operating organization with programs focusing on
education, culture, arts, and sports development, community development, and religious/spiritual development.

COVID-19 Test Kits Pledge to QC

J. Amado Araneta Foundation and Araneta City pledged to donate local

The GRF Convention Center also opened its dormitory and provided free meals
and amenities for the quarantined 24 nurses and health workers of the Roxas
Memorial Provincial Hospital who were exposed to persons under investigation
or PUIs or patients with positive Covid-19. To increase morale and appreciate
the 114 front liners of Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital, Ganda Kits (Vanity
Kits) were gifted to them along with some Easter goodies.

#TWH in Christ the King Parish in
Greenmeadows, Quezon City

Christ the King (CTK) Parish has been extending help to poor communities in
the Cubao Diocese and medical frontliners in hospitals as part of its OPLAN
COVID, an ongoing outreach to respond to those most affected by the
pandemic. Among those that are supporting this effort is J. Amado Araneta
Foundation and other generous benefactors from
parish organizations and other entities.

120 families from St. Martin de Porres of Quezon City received our
#TogetherWeHeal family food packs last week.

#TWH in Gawad Kalinga - JIACT

#TogetherWeHeal family food packs with vegetable seeds were distributed
to the 160 families of Julio Iglesias - Araneta Center
Gawad Kalinga Village in Tanay, Rizal.

#TWH in District VI, QC

Our #TogetherWeHeal food packs were delivered to the 179 families living in the
urban poor community in Bgy Tandang Sora and Kaingin Bukid in Bgy. Apolonio
Samson, District 6, Quezon City. These areas are either under observation and
assessment for possible lockdown or being prepared for lockdown.

#AranetaBalikPasada

Through the help of RiteMed, jeepney drivers, bus drivers and commuters
received ascorbic acid tablets at the Jeepney Terminal and the Araneta City Bus.
#AranetaBalikPasada was launched to support bouncing back drivers who are
recovering from months of being idle.

Considering their overall welfare, vitamins, oral rinse, face mask, and fruit juices
were distributed to them on different days. This was to ensure that they are
protected from the risk of getting the COVID-19 virus. About 150 drivers, 1,000
commuters, and 650 front liners benefitted from the oral solution and face mask
packages. Some 200 drivers plus 660 commuters
got their share of the ascorbic acid tablets.

July 9
JAAF Supported Roxas City’s “Crops for Creatives”

Roxas City’s CROPS FOR CREATIVES, was the local-farmer-driven food security
outreach program intended to support artists in time of COVID-19 Crisis.
Sackbags-full of products for the arts and entertainment community were
distributed. It contained local produce bought from small-scale farmers. The
vegetables came from Bolo Vegetable Farms, while the rice was from Gabu-an
and the dried fish from Dumolog. Crops for Creatives is a concerted effort of the
Roxas City Government, Ang Panublion Museum, Gerry Roxas Foundation,
Hublag Foundation, with the support of JAAF.

September 29
Bayang Hinabi

JAAF supported a livelihood training project for Quezon City women
entrepreneurs. Bayang Hinabi is a capacity-building training for the women in
Barangay Greater Lagro and Barangay Sto. Cristo. Loline Estipona, in her 70’s,
from Brgy. Greater Lagro was an Eco Aide (street sweeper) before the
Pandemic. She volunteered to be part of the Bayang Hinabi Project and learn to
be a sewer for a living. Ten (10) women who were selected are given free
training sessions on making PPEs (personal protective equipment), an in-
demand but very delicate commodity at the moment due to the pandemic.
Once completed, these PPEs were donated to the public
hospitals in Quezon City.

JAAF provided the micro-grant to support this Project. Together with its
partners, SPARK Philippines, DTI Philippines, and the Quezon City Government,
this project aims to provide economic opportunities for local women amidst the
pandemic and the country’s economic recession and assist the local health
sector through community participation.

October 21
Isopropyl Alcohol for Brgy. Socorro Health Center

JAAF donated gallons of isopropyl alcohol to Barangay Socorro Health Center.
The Barangay is one of those with the highest recorded cases of COVID-19 cases
in District III of Quezon City. The donations was to prevent the transmission in
the workplace without hindering the health services offered by the Health
Center to its residents.

Reinvented

Gateway Gallery launched on July its official app,
the Gateway Gallery Pocket Museum. This provides
the public 24/7 access to content on exhibits, art,
history, and other cultural materials in the museum.

The app was developed primarily to host the
SiningSaysay Augmented Reality which provides the
user with a compact, multi-sensory experience of
Philippine history from prehistory up to the
contemporary period by adding the elements of
sound, music, motion, space, and narration to a two-
dimensional image.

Learning Lab

Due to the IATF guidelines, the Gateway Gallery has
been closed since March. It was, however, given a
special permit to open in November by the Quezon
City government as it temporarily converted its
space into a Learning Lab for those in need of a
quiet, sanitized, and conducive-for-learning nook
with free internet connection.

Siningsaya Children’s
workbook

Gateway Gallery completed and launched with
Adarna House Publishing the SiningSaya Children’s
Workbook, a workbook based on the SiningSaysay
Exhibit filled with fun tasks and activities related to
Philippine history and culture. It was sold at Php
200, with one book donated to a sponsored child.
Sales proceeds were diverted to Operation
R.E.A.C.H. in November to help Filipinos displaced
by Typhoon Ulysses.

Tanglaw Online Reading Program

It also launched Tanglaw Online Reading Program.
Tanglaw means light or guide in Filipino. The
program was meant to periodically provide a list of
reading materials in Filipino for culture, history, and
heritage appreciation.

Kwentuhang Adarna Sa Gateway Gallery

JAAF diverted its Kwentuhang Adarna sa Gateway
Gallery activities to a series of online reading
session with Adarna House to encourage children to
read books and spend time with family.

Youth Opines

Launched in July, Youth Opines (YO) made the Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages of
JAAF became more vibrant with content provided by select YO Correspondents, who are
JAAF Scholars. This digital program aims to convey the pulse of the youth and provide a
unique mentorship opportunity for the participants.

JAAF #LivingHeroes

Where the people are, JAAF went too. JAAF rode on major social issues for our campaigns that kickstarted advocacy support and enriched
community engagements. For one, JAAF acknowledged the heroic efforts of outstanding people who helped make a difference
during the COVID-19 Pandemic and recognized them as JAAF #LivingHeroes.

#ResilientPinoy

JAAF put MSMEs in the spotlight with #ResilientPinoy. Those who have a story of bouncing back, rebooting, or pivoting your business at the time of the new normal were featured #ResilientPinoy stories in JAAF’s digital pages. The aim was to help and inspire other entrepreneurs to navigate through the crisis and win in the new world. Chosen #ResilientPinoys, aside from published stories, were also rewarded with a 1-week free lessee space at the Araneta City Christmas Bazaar on December 2020 for the Christmas Edition.

Art Heals: Echoes of the Pandemic

This online exhibit was launched on July 10 to
document the critical times through the art of more
than forty Filipino artists.

#YouMatter: Gallery In Your Hands

In partnership with Araneta City, Gateway Gallery
launched this digital gallery on October 11. #YouMatter, a
visual art exhibit by 11 Filipino artists who are dealing
with mental health issues, was meant to validate mental
health crisis and stimulate discussions and awareness on
this overlooked social problem.

This campaign started with an internal call for donations from ACI employees for Taal volcanic eruption victims on January 15. After two days, JAAF gathered enough donations for 300 families, which were turned over for an outreach on January 19. The campaign was then expanded to cover malls as drop-off centers. By February 10, with close to 5,500 individual beneficiaries:

Four outreach activities were done to turn over the donations: three through partner organizations who did on-ground activities, and one co-led by JAAF with the Gerry Roxas Leadership Awardees, Inc.
